Holiday Dinner

I wanted to thank everyone for their help at the last activity (I know, it's been over a month...)  We got 5 blankets made, 30 file folders done, and over 30 school kits sewn and put together.

Our next activity is going to be November 18th at 6:30.  It will be our Holiday dinner.  So mark your calendars and we will see you there!

Thanks

Picnics and Hikes

Hello Sisters!

We have a couple of activities going on this week-

Wednesday we will have a picnic at the park (weather permitting!)  Bring your sack lunches and meet at Meadow View park at 11:30.  We will be switching which parks we go to each week.

Friday we will go on a "hike."  We will meet at the church at 8:00.  We are planning on going on the River Trail, but I am going to check out how high the water is flowing.  I will send another email tomorrow after I head up the canyon. If we don't do that one, maybe we can do the Bonneville lake trail, which is also ok with strollers.  Any other suggestions for hikes? Unless it is raining, plan on meeting at the church at 8:00.  We will plan on doing these every other week, unless you want to do it more!

I know I don't have everyone's emails, so call your friends and neighbors and let them know about the activities.  Send me your email (soccermegan@gmail.com) if you didn't receive one about the activities so I can add you to the list!

Happy Trails!

Models Wanted!

So I have been putting off this post for some time because I feel sortof sheepish for asking, but I really need some practice on painting people. I have barely touched a paintbrush in the past 3 years (I studied art in college) and want to get some painting time in before I have our baby in June--won't have much time then! I just want people to come and pose for me to take a picture to do a small portrait painting. It doesn't matter what you wear ( as long as it is something! I am not doing figure painting) It doesn't matter your age. If it turns out, you can keep it.
There are some stipulations though:

1- I can't promise it will look good!

2-I can't promise it will look like you--like I said, I am out of practice.

3- I get final say on the pose (don't worry, nothing weird. It just depends on if I am in the mood to do a silly, smiling, thoughtful, sentimental or dramatic lighting type of thing) but I am welcome to input if you have a preference for the mood of the painting.

Here are a couple I have done lately:

Don't be shy-- I would be most grateful for any volunteers!
Thanks! Melinda Christensen

Anybody Want a Pear Tree?

We have two pear trees that I think were planted the spring before last by the previous owners of our house. They are way too close together so we are getting rid of one. It is healthy and small enough to be transplanted pretty easily (about 6 feet tall). If anybody wants it give us a call--otherwise we'll probably just dig it up and get rid of it.
This is Melinda Christensen by the way, I know my name probably shows up at the bottom of the post, but just to be sure...

Get out of the house!

We are starting a play group at the church.  It will be Wednesdays from 10:00 to 11:00ish.  It will give you a chance to get out of the house and come visit with sisters, as well as let your kids play.   We will do this until it warms up a bit more outside :)  Call Lisa Saunders if you have any questions!  Thanks

Finances

We had a great enrichment meeting last night.  Sister Saunders gave a thought about paying our tithing.  After the lesson, we broke into mini classes.  There were 5 to choose from:  Teaching Kids about money by Sister Carey, Food Storage by Sister Anhder, Budgeting by Sister Tanner, Couponing by Sister Sorenson, and Insurance by Brother Ivie.  After the classes, we put together books (thanks Sister Carter) to keep all of our important documents together and organized.  There were refreshments afterwards, thanks to Sisters Christensen, Naylor, Saunders, and Hutchison.  We had cookies and brownies and food storage frosties  (a great way to rotate your dry milk!)
Thanks to all who helped and those who came.  Everybody learned something to take home and improve our lives!

New Year!

I'd like to wish a happy new year to all the Relief Society sisters.  I am excited about the new year, and have made several resolutions of my own, hopefully to keep longer than the first few weeks of the year!  Our theme for this year is "Of One Heart and One Mind."  We are going to study several different attributes of Christ, so we can learn to become like Him.  On doing this, we may have a unified soul which leads to unity within our families, ward, and church.  The attributes we are going to study are:

February: Charity and Love

March: Patience

April: General Conference

May: Diligence

June: Faith

July: Obedience

August: Knowledge

September: Hope

October: General Conference

November: Humility

December:  Virtue

We hope that as we study Christ and the attributes of his heart, we will be more able to withstand temptation and be more like him.

-Sister Tanner
